Description

I just saw the most amazing thing today. I went with a buddy to go see the Fathom event showing of The Iron Giant Signature Edition. And it was glorious XD

This masterpiece of animation was once again brought to the big screen, with 7.1 Surround sound, a remastered picture, and TWO additional scenes not in the original release due to time and money constraints.

Even better, this version of the film will be released on Blu-Ray on October 5th! Please, I urge you to pick up this wonderful piece of animation when it returns to shelves :3 Anyone who first saw it will be reminded of the nostalgia, and a new age of fans will be thrilled of the story about a boy and his robot :3

OMG! I love this movie! I had no Idea about this!

I love so many things about this movie. My favorite things are:

the lesson. You are who you choose to be.

how groundbreaking it was. This movie came out before computer animation, meaning it was all done by hand, and it came out when animation was about to die off because it was considered too expensive and too risky. From what I heard, this movie saved animation as an art form.

the backstory. Most people don't know this, but the Iron Giant was based off a book by the same name written by Ted Hughes (Referenced by the protagonist's full name in the movie (Hogarth Hughes)) after his wife committed suicide so that he could comfort his kids. The movie varied greatly from the book, but ended up a huge success. I kinda remember my mom reading it to me and my older brother when we were young. Some things, like the Giant being able to rebuild itself, were from the book, but the cold war references, and the nuclear missile werent(From what I remember). At one point in the book there was this part where an indestructable alien came and threatened to destroy the world or something, I don't remember, but the giant challenged the alien to a contest. The giant had the army light himself on fire at certain temperatures, then challenged the alien to withstand the same heat. It eventually got to the point where the alien had to go to the surface of the sun, but still ended up losing the contest!

The last thing is that my mom still can't describe what it was like seeing the scene from the movie where the giant learns that he can fly in theaters. I'm hoping that if this version is 4k, I could eventually make my own home theater and see it for myself!

Wow. This is probably the longest comment I've ever posted on DA. I should probably stop now. Okay I'm done.
